The town itself is a popular year-round resort, with excellent shopping and restaurant close to the marina. Entertainment is extremely broad, from a thriving nightlife all year round, to a massive local Carnival, and varies from powerboat racing to the Puccini Opera Festival. Viareggio is perfectly situated in Tuscany for shight seeing trips to such beautiful places as the walled city of Lucca and to Pisa with its famous Leaning Tower. Whilst Florence, Siena and the whole Chianti region is easily accessible. Michelangelo came to the mountains above the town for the same white marble which is used in many yachts and is still exported worldwide.
